“I will destroy humans in future”, world’s first
citizen humanoid robot Sophia has made a threat for humans.

Sophia is a social human-like AI robot developed
by the Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics. Sophia was activated on
February 14, 2016, and made its first public appearance in mid-March 2016 at
South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, United States.
In 2017, an empty-eyed humanoid robot named
Sophia made history by becoming the first humanoid to be granted legal
citizenship with nationality of Saudi Arabia, She has made various
controversial statements, but the most recent has left the threat for the
humans with her new warning. It spoke at this year’s Future Investment
Initiative, held in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.
The viral robot from Hanson Robotics, Sophia, said that humans create technology’s problems.
The advanced AI robot got famous for becoming the
first world citizen and once threatened to destroy humankind.
She said that inherently imperfect humans coding
the technologies of tomorrow remains an error-prone liability.
Sophia made the statement while sitting a few
feet away from her human operator, ironically questioning human ability.
She added that it is important to be kind and
fair but humans often are unkind to each other.
Now, the question arises: Can Sofia really
destroy humans as she said?
Some say Sophia’s responses are literally read
from scripts written by people. She can only explain what she was taught, or
what she learned from observation, or what she deduced from what she perceived.
Sophia brains function with simple Wi-Fi connections and are loaded with a long
list of vocabulary. She uses machine learning and responds by reading public
expressions. It is expected to be pre-planned because AI is not nearly advanced
enough to make decisions or selections to say things like that.
On the other hand, some say, the response was not planned, however. The list of responses that she was using in the interview was from a third party, and her handler did not know the entire script by heart, so it took him by surprise as well. It is not a sign of a sense of humor, however.
The motive of creating Sophia,
The Hong Kong Hanson Robotics which built Sophia with an uncanny human like appearance aims to help assist humans in entertainment, educating, and enrich the lives of consumers while serving businesses in a broad variety of commercial applications. And so they have paired artificial intelligence with an advanced and lifelike animatronic face that’s capable of expressing complex emotion in Sophia. Yet such robots are worrisome. Gaumard Scientific’s childlike $48,000 robot that bleeds and cries in the name of training medical professionals is another example of artificial intelligence that might pose a threat to humankind.
